Meditating in Middlesex

Upon composing Fade to Black, Jay-Z spoke about the importance of inspiration in his music. He said it was top priority to find sources of inspiration. Because when he was inspired, he didn't have to think. He just felt. And that made his songs honest.
It shouldn’t be a secret by now I’m a big fan of human sampling. When done right, it can be the rawest organic flow of someones inner music. Reggie Watts is the best I’ve seen. He’s beyond cool. I want him to raise my children.

^ The picture is my nephew Ovian taking his first breath. And Jay-Z’s “1st Song” is relevant because it’s not actually his 1st song.
Cat’s like this is why I love hip hop - brings it back to what the culture is all about. We all got stories to share. This is just an 8 count to get that struggle out your chest.
This is an event the lead engineer at Lunar told me about. Essentially its a simple forum for designers to show off their latest work: “Each presenter is allowed 20 images, each shown for 20 seconds each - giving 6 minutes 40 seconds of fame before the next presenter is up. This keeps presentations concise, the interest level up, and gives more people the chance to show.”
Content level ranges from artist to engineer.
In addition to keeping you up to date on hot trends, you can also observe the best and the worst presentation styles.
Hahahaha. Just wow. This was definitely the hit of the weekend.
I see this video as a testament to the struggle between genuine artistic talent and filling the crass market need. Many Rn’B stars struggle with this. People like Brian McKnight, D’Angelo, etc. have been studying and writing musical compositions since they were children. At the time, conscious music was much better received - from Nina Simone to even Jimi Hendrix. People were comfortable letting their music latch on to movements. Music isn’t there to move people like it used to though. Ever since “gangster” music hit mainstream, it lost all it’s genuine edge and started blurring the lines of being a joke. Suburban kids just wanted something to make them feel like this so called “gangster.” Being ignorant prevailed as the only surviving movement in hip hop. And eventually artist just needed to make some money and had to make music for the movement of going dumb. Jeremih knows this. Artist like Weezy and Lada Gaga have mastered this. I guess it’s just the zeitgeist of the time we live in.
